Poetry Society

The Merton College Poetry Society (MCPS) is a group for Mertonians to talk about poetry (surprisingly…), as well as other types of writing. MCPS seeks to be a friendly place for people at Merton to share poetry and develop their own writing, as well as a springboard for the wider opportunities for involvement in poetry across the University.

Our staple events are our regular informal poetry readings throughout the term, invariably accompanied by snacks – everyone’s welcome to these, whether to bring along a poem that you’ve written, a poem that you wish you had written, or just to listen. Our other activities include walks and visits exploring the various poetic and literary connections around Oxford, and holding workshops to help people get writing poetry. Whether you’ve written a lot before, or never really tried your hand at poetry before, we’re keen to get Merton, reading, writing, and talking about poetry!

To keep up-to-date with our events, email either Molly or Alex to be added to our mailing list, or visit our Facebook page.
