The College nurse is available to offer a confidential service based on the individual needs of the individual. My role is to offer Nursing care, support and medical advice to all students, on any aspect of physical and/or psychological health needs whilst they are at Merton.
I hold drop-in clinics 9.30 to 15.00 from Monday through Thursday And 9:30-12:30 on Friday. So no appointment needed.
If you are unwell and are unable to come to see me in the office, I will happily visit you.
I am able to offer a wide range of information and guidance on topics such as contraception, foreign travel, sports injuries, dental care and other health issues you may need support with.
I also work very closely with the College Doctors and can help arrange both G.P appointments or hospital follow ups visits. The College Doctors continue to hold a weekly clinic in Merton once a week 1-8th week where consultations can be arranged.
The Merton College Doctors are located at the Jericho Health Centre (New Radcliffe House, Walton Street, Oxford, OX2 6NW), where most students are registered. The university requires students to have a GP in Oxford, and it is recommended that you register with the college doctors, as they have a great deal of experience dealing with students, and any health issues or practical needs that you may have. If you wish to register with another Oxford doctor, you will need to inform the college nurse in writing. Any student who has a chronic illness is allowed to remain registered with a GP outside Oxford. Whenever necessary, they will be treated as a temporary resident by the college or other local doctor.
Surgery hours are 8.30 a.m. to late morning and afternoons up to 5.30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Appointments should normally be made by telephone, 01865 311234. The Jericho Health Centre will also accept email requests for repeat prescriptions (email@example.com), alongside requests made in person.
In addition on Tuesday mornings, from 1st week through to 8th week, a doctor from the Jericho Health Centre holds a surgery on an appointment only basis in the college (Grove 1:2) from 11:30 to 12:30. Appointments can be made via the college nurse, or through their phone number 01865 311 234. You can also have an appointment with a doctor at the Oriel college surgery between 11:30 and 12:30 on a Thursday during term time.
