Catherine Haines: College Nurse

My name is Catherine Haines and I am the College Nurse at Merton.

The service I provide is based on the individual needs of each student. My role is to offer confidential nursing care, support and medical advice to all students, on any aspect of physical and/or psychological health whilst they are at Merton.  No appointment is necessary to see me. If you are unwell, or are unable to call and see me in my office, I will happily visit you.  I also offer a wide range of information and advice on topics such as contraception, foreign travel, physiotherapy, sports injuries, dental care and other health issues.  In my role I work very closely with the College Doctors and can help arrange both GP appointments and hospital follow-up visits.

I will be available on site each term, from 0 to 9th week, from Monday, Wednesday and Friday inclusive, from 09.30 to 14.30 and Tuesday and Thursday from 09.30 to 13.30 in Grove 1:2 .  I can also be contacted via email (nurse@merton.ox.ac.uk) or the internal (2)76320

College Doctors

The Merton College Doctors are located at the Jericho Health Centre (New Radcliffe House, Walton Street, Oxford, OX2 6NW), where most students are registered.  The university requires students to have a GP in Oxford, and it is recommended that you register with the college doctors, as they have a great deal of experience dealing with students, and any health issues or practical needs that you may have.  If you wish to register with another Oxford doctor, you will need to inform the college nurse in writing.  Any student who has a chronic illness is allowed to remain registered with a GP outside Oxford. Whenever necessary, they will be treated as a temporary resident by the college or other local doctor

Surgery hours are 8.30 a.m. to late morning and afternoons up to 5.30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Appointments should normally be made by telephone, 01865 311234. The Jericho Health Centre will also accept email requests for repeat prescriptions (jerichohc.prescriptions@nhs.net), alongside requests made in person.

In addition on Tuesday mornings, from 1st week through to 8th week, a doctor from the Jericho Health Centre holds a surgery on an appointment only basis in the college (Grove 1:2) from 11:30 to 12:30. Appointments can be made via the college nurse, or through their phone number 01865 311 234. You can also have an appointment with a doctor at the Oriel college surgery between 11:30 and 12:30 on a Thursday during term time.
